Effective October 1st, 2016 CSU has temporarily suspended some of our regular Village Market Place operations.

In July 2015, with your support, CSU purchased the Paul Robeson Center. Since then we have been busy imagining the transformation of this 10,000 square foot site, along the Vermont corridor, into the Paul Robeson Community Wellness Center (PRCWC). This process has involved many of you and numerous community residents, as we have sought input and feedback into design ideas for the space.

The design process is almost complete and we are now on the verge of having final architectural plans, a final budget and timeline etc. to begin construction. The newly constructed PRCWC will include an organic market selling fresh, local produce and pantry items, a café and a commercial kitchen. This will allow our social enterprise the Village Market Place to serve more local families with fresh, high quality food.

In order to facilitate this growth we are suspending the current weekly operations of VMP so that we can focus our attention on the many tasks of creating the new PRCWC. The weekly produce bag program and the weekly produce stands will be temporarily on hold effective October 1st 2016, until further notice. During this time we will operate pop ups at various times and locations; look out on this list and social media for those announcements.

Sometimes you have to step back a little in order to plan and stride forward in the most effective way. Consider this our fall pruning, cutting away all possible branches so that the roots can become stronger, building resilience and a bountiful and beautiful bloom. During this time we will be focusing our organizational effort on ensuring that we have all the partnerships and resources needed to open and sustain the PRCWC and we invite any organization or individuals to work with us to this end. We will be holding a series of special events at the PRC, stay tuned for more info.
